Handpicked this week: April 3

With most of my fall and winter projects winding down, I am preparing to take on two very large projects this spring and summer and I couldn't be more excited! One of the projects has a Revolutionary War tavern in it - where the Bedford Minutemen met before marching to the North Bridge. I can't wait for you to see this project unfold. It's literally history in the making and I am so honored to be a part of it.

For new subscribers, in this weekly newsletter I share my top picks for the week - trends or particularly noteworthy design. Each week I share an interior, a real estate listing and a style item that I think are special. I hope you'll let me know what you think!

1] Handpicked: INTERIOR

You know that my years in California have permeated my design aesthetic permanently. I recently found M. Elle Design and am loving some of the moodier translations of that west coast aesthetic. I love how she fused darker shiplap in khaki and charcoal with airier decor - linen and woven textures. And of course the interior window which will be making an appearance at one of my projects soon!

2) Handpicked: REAL ESTATE

I really like this area of Cambridge. It is very walkable - to Porter Square and to Whole Foods - and has a suburban neighborhood feel. Also the houses tend to be a lot more affordable than other areas of the city (it borders the opportunity zone of Cambridge). I love the Dutch Colonial architecture of this exterior - what wonderful curb appeal! It even has a picket fence - you would never guess this is in the city.

I of course love that the original woodwork is untouched, which means lots of character and charm to restore and celebrate.

3) Handpicked: STYLE

HapiArt is art that is full of joy and color (and sometimes it even has glitter!). So often I rely on a neutral backdrop - whites, creams - and then give the space a huge POW with bold art or color in furniture and decor. That way, if the client decides to change direction later (or seasonally), the foundation is set and the less expensive pieces can be refreshed. We recently ordered one of Hapi Art's pieces for a client in Needham, and let me tell you its exuberance sure does make me... happy!
