Handpicked this week: November 14

With the clocks set back, we enter a season of darkness and with that a greater awareness of how much light means to us. Reflection, thoughtful lighting design and candlelight are all top of mind with my clients currently. I find I am drawn to images and inspiration that are full of glow, lustre and coziness.

For new subscribers, in this weekly newsletter I share my top picks for the week - trends or particularly noteworthy design. Each week I share an interior, a real estate listing and a style item that I think are special. I hope you'll let me know what you think!

1] Handpicked: INTERIOR

In keeping with my awareness of light (and the lack of it) these days, my appreciation for moody, luminous interiors grows. And, combined with my obsession with adding patina to interiors to counterbalance a refreshed interior renovation, I am always delighted by the work of deVol Kitchens (based in the UK but with a NY showroom). They offer bespoke kitchens, but also furniture, hardware and lighting that works in both historic and modern homes. Feast your eyes!

And I just found out they have a show on the Magnolia Network!

2) Handpicked: REAL ESTATE

This week I couldn't decide whether to put this home in the Design section or Real Estate. I met Delyse and Jon Barry of Upstate Down this summer when they rented our cottage in Rhode Island (so glad to call them friends now). They're insanely talented, and are doing both brokerage and development in the Rhinebeck, NY area.

Partnering with The Art of Building, they just listed this incredible house on 7 South Street. There are so many details I'm savoring and I'm already showing some of the nuanced design ideas to clients. I particularly love the kitchen which takes some cues from English style and marries time-worn materials and Shaker details with modern lines.

Loving this modern update to a traditional island with furniture legs

These pine floors!

3) Handpicked: STYLE

I follow a lot of design coming out of Australia - from interiors to clothing and bedding to furniture. It's like a mashup of California and Bali and English style - all in one! I also love a lot of the indigenous art - mainly in the form of textiles and printmaking - from there.

One resource that aggregates all of these favorites is Jumbled. Follow them on Instagram for a joyful curation of art, decor items and fashion! I love their rainbow palette and am always happy to see warmer weather when we are in the cold months (remember hemispheres?). They also carry art and bedding from one of my very favorite artists and resources, Rachel Castle.

Love these pink vases in particular (doesn't it all look like sea glass?)

Rachel Castle is bananas talented

Which of these will be on your holiday list?

4) BONUS TOOL: What will it cost?

I know I keep mentioning this, but I encourage you to check out my recently released Renovation Spreadsheet. It details all the expenses involved in renovation construction and can be used for a single bathroom to a full home.

I hope you love these handpicked favorites! I would love to hear from you and what YOUR favorites are this week.
