Handpicked this week: December 19

A month got away from me in sending out this newsletter... between finishing up a major renovation and planning for 2022, I have had very few moments to sit with my computer. I'm so glad you're still here!

For new subscribers, in this weekly newsletter I share my top picks for the week - trends or particularly noteworthy design. Each week I share an interior, a real estate listing and a style item that I think are special. I hope you'll let me know what you think!

1] Handpicked: INTERIOR

It seems amazing that I have sent out Handpicked without mentioning one of my all-time favorite designers (and professional inspiration, Raili Ca Design. Her blend of California surfer is elevated, comfortable and always refreshingly original. She is not afraid to take risks with a sense of playfulness, and I find myself consistently referring to her work just to remind myself not to play it safe!

I mean, this window is everything

I mean, who is this amazing with bathrooms?

Mid century, contemporary, reimagined vintage... she does it all. Definitely check out her IG feed too.

2) Handpicked: REAL ESTATE

It's slim pickings this time of the year in the real estate world, as the holidays bring the market to a snail's pace. I had saved this home a couple of months ago, and while the listing was just removed, it's still available. In the Auburndale section of Newton, it's a gorgeous Italianiate Victorian sited on nearly two acres. It was beautifully staged but definitely needs a big facelift in the kitchen and baths... but oh those details!

Look at the location and the setting!

The fireplaces in the whole house are incredible

And then we get to the kitchen... where it all kind of falls apart.

This is my favorite kind of home - just yearning to be loved and for the original details to be celebrated!

3) Handpicked: STYLE

I wear a LOT of maxi dresses since I'm so tall, but fall and winter have me putting away those in favor of black pants and tunics/sweaters/my favorite Zuri tops

But I recently discovered Oliphant and now my maxi world has reopened in the colder months. Colors and sleeves appropriate for layering and cooler weather... which is your favorite?

Might have to add these to my holiday list!

4) BONUS TOOL: What will it cost?

Are you considering a renovation in 2022 (but are maybe feeling a little terrified)? Then I hope you'll download my Renovation Spreadsheet. It details all the expenses involved in renovation construction and can be used for a single bathroom to a full home.

I hope you love these handpicked favorites! I would love to hear from you and what YOUR favorites are this week.
