Handpicked this week - September 24

Welcome to my Handpicked by Milk and Honey Group newsletter. For new subscribers, in this weekly newsletter I share my top picks for the week - trends or particularly noteworthy design. Each week I share an interior, a real estate listing and a style item that I think are special. I hope you'll let me know what you think!

1] Handpicked: INTERIOR

Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs is a darling of Los Angeles interiors. Her style is rich with mid-century references but incorporates clean Scandinavian lines and modern functionality. Her homes are definitely understated and authentic - you never look at her photos and say "this is a beautiful design but does anyone actually live here?"

I love that Natalie's furniture choices are so in harmony with her homes' architecture. My city clients tend to love mid century modern design, but in the suburbs the style is more coastal/traditional. What do you think of her work?

2) Handpicked: REAL ESTATE

This home on the Ridge in Concord was for sale for a hot minute and is now pending. The Ridge is a beloved neighborhood - the houses here are large (as are the lots) and the old-fashioned community full of kids and bicycles is cherished and unusual. This home needs a lot of updates (why are there so many columns?) but purchasing in this area is always an excellent investment.

Glass sinks and blue tile... lots to update here but well worth it!

3) Handpicked: STYLE

Oh my, do you know about Orphan Work? They specialize in alabaster lighting made in Italy. Alabaster is a soft stone that is easily carved and is translucent, meaning that it glows when light shines through it. Warm and unctuous, it's one of my favorite materials for lamps (I collect vintage alabaster pairs).

Orphan Work employs traditional artisans in Italy, and I am just a little bit jealous of this declaration on their website, "Every year, we make it a point to spend our summers alongside our artisans in Tuscany." Hmmmmm, I think I need to spend my summers in a Florentine villa designing lighting too!

Sculptural when not lit, and virtually celestial when illuminated, these pieces are at the very intersection of art and lighting.

That's all from our team this week - can't wait until next week!
